Meet Harvey

Harvey Rathore

Job Title: Quilter Foundation Engagement Lead
Year you joined Quilter:
2019
Interesting Fact about you: I was once an ambassador for Beyonce’s charity

My name is Harvinder Rathore, however, I like to go by my nickname - Harvey. I have a passion for community work and supporting others’ endeavours to give back. In my personal life, I help to run a community garden in my local area. It’s a safe space for residences to attend, volunteer, grow their own veggies, and offers a space for respite in a green area.

As the Quilter Foundation Engagement Lead, my role involves creating opportunities for colleagues and advisers to connect with our charity, The Quilter Foundation. It’s incredibly rewarding to bridge these connections and see the impact they create.

My passion for the community and giving back is rooted in my religious beliefs. Selfless service is one of the key pillars in Sikhism and this principle resonates with what I do both in personal and professional life. As an added bonus, I also tell (bad) dad jokes – there’s nothing better than making others laugh, even if it is by force!

My closest friends and family are undeniably my biggest influence. They have consistently supported and encouraged me to pursue my passions, both personally and professionally. Their belief in me has given me the strength and drive to challenge myself and push my limits.

They have shaped my values and provided a solid foundation for my growth and I could not be more grateful.

It is through their love, guidance and support that I have learnt the importance of empathy, connection and values.

As you start your career journey, remember how far you have come so far and everything you have achieved to get here. You are exactly where you need to be. Embrace learning opportunities, even if they come with challenges. Network to broaden your perspective. No matter how senior someone is, don’t be afraid to approach them, you are just as important as they are.

Find a balance between work and personal life – your wellbeing is of upmost importance and that always comes first.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – everyone does! They’re the most valuable part of learning. Finally, let your passions guide you – doing what you love will lead to fulfilling and meaningful experiences.

Following graduating and getting a degree in Sociology, I never would have seen myself in financial services. I struggled to find a role that fuelled my passions after graduating. However, someone I know recommended an entry level role at Quilter working on the phones in the customer service centre.

At the time, I was very unsure about the role and felt it did not align with my strengths. I was so wrong. I took the plunge and decided to apply for the role with very little conviction in myself. However, as I look back, I am so grateful for starting here. This beginning taught me so much about the business and enabled me to build on my strengths as well as developing new ones. The role helped me to develop communication, relationship building and people skills.

I was able to transfer these skills into another role within Quilter, working with our charity – The Quilter Foundation. Since working in the contact centre, I have progressed twice within my Foundation role. I now lead on engagement with our colleagues and advisers, supporting them to get involved with the Foundation.

I am so glad I chose Quilter as it has directed me into a role I am so incredibly passionate about. What I do now does not feel like a job as I can see the direct impact we have both internally and in the wider community. I also appreciate the additional opportunities Quilter offers that go beyond the day-to-day role. For example, I am an active member of the Cultural Diversity Network and can network and collaborate with colleagues across the business.

I have also just completed my Level 3 apprenticeship in leadership, a course offered through Quilter. I am now so confident in my abilities however, I still seek out new opportunities to grow and learn.
